Questions
How tools get picked, what the prices mean and who keeps the shelves.
How does a tool get on a shelf?
It gets used on real work or comes recommended, we open it and try it, and it gets one honest line and a place in its category. Anyone can suggest one on the Submit tool page.
Where did the list come from?
Links saved by hand over years of making things, then checked one by one. Dead links, parked domains, copies of paid software and lists of other lists were left out; what stayed got one honest line.
Does anyone pay to be listed?
No. There are no sponsored rows and no affiliate links. Every link goes straight to the tool’s own site.
What do Free, Freemium and Paid mean?
Free: what matters costs nothing. Freemium: a useful free tier with paid plans. Paid: you pay to use it, though most offer a trial. Prices change, so check the tool’s site before you rely on it.
What was left out?
Dead links, parked or hijacked domains, copies of paid software and keys, single articles and lists of other lists. Shops and gear may get a category of their own later.
Will there be more categories?
Yes. These eight come first; operating systems, homelab, gaming and gear are on the list.
A link is broken or has changed.
Write to kitefold.labs@gmail.com and it gets fixed. Tools change hands and move; the shelves should keep up.
Who keeps Stacks?
Kitefold Labs, a small studio that makes apps and browser extensions for everyday annoyances. Stacks is the library we kept for ourselves.
